Local Information Come and see for yourself the wonderful attractions of historic Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Castles, country houses and museums, miles of unspoilt, deserted beaches and countryside; Holy Island and the Farne Islands; the Alnwick Gardens; the Tweed Valley and the Borders towns. Edinburgh and Newcastle 70 minutes by car via the A1, or only 45 minutes by train from the mainline station at Berwick. Sporting & Leisure Activities Salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing are available on the nearby rivers - Tweed, Till and Whiteadder through local letting agents, with whom we can put you in touch. Salmon fishing on the River Tweed runs from 1st February to 30th November. Trout fishing is also available at Coldingham Loch and at the Watch Loch, Longformacus, with permits available on site in the season. There is serious sea fishing from the ports of Burnmouth and Eyemouth all the year round, subject to weather conditions and off the rocky coastline between Berwick and St Abb's Head. The Old Barn is also a good location for bird watching, golf (a golfer's passport is available from us, on request), photography, riding, shooting and walking. Berwick-upon-Tweed's many facilities include interesting shops, pubs, restaurants, the popular Maltings Theatre and the Swan Centre for Leisure. |
